Excellence and safety in healthcare: Veneto Automation's intervention at the Borgo Roma Hospital in Verona
In the delicate balance that governs cutting-edge healthcare facilities, technology and automation play a silent but absolutely vital role. Recently, the Automazione Veneto team was involved in a highly specialized intervention at the chemotherapy drug preparation laboratories at Borgo Roma Hospital in Verona, a leading national oncology center.
When it comes to anti-tumor drugs (chemotherapy), precision is not only a goal, but a fundamental safety requirement. The intervention involved the calibration and optimization of the entire air conditioning system, with a specific focus on controlling critical environmental parameters: humidity, pressure, and extraction systems.
The technical challenge: controlling flows and pressures.
In a laboratory where highly toxic substances are handled, the environment must be rigorously controlled to ensure dual protection: that of the preparation (to prevent contamination) and that of the healthcare worker.
Our technicians meticulously calibrated the differential pressure between the various rooms, ensuring that airflows were correctly directed to prevent the escape of chemical vapors or particles. At the same time, humidity and temperature control were refined to ensure drug stability during the delicate preparation phases.
The heart of the laboratory: laminar flow hoods.
Thermo Scientific Maxisafe 2030i containment units stand out in the images documented during the intervention. These are Class II biological safety cabinets, designed to offer the highest level of protection. Automazione Veneto carefully checked the hoods’ aspiration, verifying that air volumes and flow rates met stringent regulatory standards. Proper calibration of these systems is essential to ensure the air barrier is always efficient, eliminating any risk of inhalation for personnel.
Security and Business Continuity
Working in hospital environments requires not only technical expertise but also a deep awareness of the impact of one’s work. Thanks to the synergy between Automazione Veneto and the technical management of Borgo Roma Hospital, the project was completed with maximum precision without interfering with the department’s crucial activities.
This project confirms Automazione Veneto’s vocation as a reliable partner for facilities requiring ICT and industrial automation solutions applied to healthcare, where technology is at the service of life.
