What is a Consortium of Companies?

A consortium is a legal entity that regulates a legally recognized voluntary aggregation that coordinates and governs joint initiatives for carrying out specific business activities, both by private entities and public bodies.

The consortium of companies involved in industrial maintenance and business services is a useful tool that provides you with a single technical manager who thoroughly analyzes your specific needs and coordinates the various on-site teams like a true project manager.

Having its own legal status, it is in every respect a defined entity that therefore offers the necessary guarantees.

One of the undeniable advantages of a consortium of companies is the ability to manage projects without subcontracting. Subcontracting, as you may know, requires specific authorizations and is generally not welcomed by client companies (some contracts explicitly prohibit it).

According to regulations, subcontracting includes any contract involving activities carried out anywhere that require the use of labor—such as supplies with installation and equipment rentals with operators—if individually exceeding 2% of the value of the entrusted work or over 100,000 euros, and when the incidence of labor costs exceeds 50% of the contract value. Unless otherwise specified in paragraph 5, any subcontracting may not exceed 30% of the total value of the contract for works, services, or supplies.

A consortium does not subcontract work; it assigns it to one of its member companies. If a project requires skills not currently available within the consortium, the issue can be solved quickly, as the entry of a new company into the consortium can be completed relatively fast (the procedures can be handled in a few days).

By carefully choosing a consortium that meets your requirements, you achieve the outcomes everyone expects: projects completed with lower budgets and work carried out within the methods and timeframes established.
