Edison thermoelectric power plant – Venice
The new Marghera Levante plant is Italy's first latest-generation thermoelectric power station and one of the most efficient in the world.
Thanks to the new turbine, the plant is able to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides by up to 70% and carbon dioxide by up to 30% compared to the average of the current Italian thermoelectric fleet. The new combined cycle at Marghera Levante is equipped with a state-of-the-art H-class turbine, the Ansaldo GT36, capable of achieving efficiency levels of up to 63%—the highest in Italy.
The GT36 is also Hydrogen Ready, designed to operate with hydrogen blends of up to 50% by volume mixed with natural gas. The plant will be able to supply energy equivalent to the annual needs of about 2,000,000 households. The construction work lasted a total of 4 years, involving up to 1,000 workers during peak phases and 250 supplier companies, for a total investment of approximately 400 million euros.
An engineering project of great complexity, made possible through the collaboration of numerous Italian and local excellences, including Automazione Veneto, whose teams contributed both on-site and through its technical office, delivering operational solutions highly appreciated by the Client.
